Of Gods and Planets: Days of the Week.

One little known aspect in astrology is the rulership of planets over the days of the week. Each planet is identified with a god, and each god in return, controls a particular day of the week. There are 7 days in a week, and the day of your birth will also influence your character. I can't help noticing that different religions venerate a certain day of the week. The Muslims, for example, venerate Fridays, while the Christians worship on Sundays. The Jews treat Saturdays as their Sabbath, while the Hindus set aside Thursdays as their holy day. What is the story behind these days?

SUNDAY

Sunday is named after the Sun. The ancients considered Horus-Ra, Helios or Sol as the solar god. Romans called the Sun as "Sol Invictus", or the Invincible Sun. He is said to be the King, and presided over royalty. The Augustus emperor was depicted as wearing a crown radiating with sunlight. Sol was often compared to Jesus Christ. Early Christians borrowed some pagan customs to include Sunday as the day Christ rose from his grave and victory over darkness. Jesus is often called the "King of Kings." Coincidentally, the birthday of Sol falls on 25th December, which is also the nativity of Jesus. Today, Christians go to church on Sundays.

If you are born on Sunday, congratulations! You can rise high in society and command attention from others. You have a need to "shine" in the limelight. Cheerful and charismatic, you are the life of the party. You are blessed with outstanding leadership qualities. You do well in positions of authority. However, you do not like to share. All the glory must belong to you. Therefore, some might view you as selfish. Sunday is sacred to the zodiac Leo (one of Jesus's title is the "Lion of Judah").

MONDAY

Monday is named after the Moon. The Hindus called it "Somavara" or "Chandravara" after their moon gods Soma and Chandra. Romans believe the goddess Artemis / Diana rules the Moon, and it is an especially feminine day. Monday is associated with mothers, and the zodiac Cancer. It is an emotional day associated with mood swings and depression. Women born on Mondays are said to make good mothers and wives - homemakers. 

If you are born on Monday, you are emotional and nurturing to others. You can protect younger people and your juniors look up to you. You love food, and you spend time eating or feeding others. Thus, the tendency to be fleshy and put on weight. However, you can be moody and susceptible to depression. You react emotionally to issues. If you are a woman, extra bonus points for beauty and marriageability. Legend has it that fair women are born on Monday.

Mondays are good for family gatherings, weddings or children activities. Good day to stay at home.

TUESDAY

Tuesday is ruled by Mars, god of war. The Koreans and Japanese referred to Tuesday as "fire day" and is symbolised by the colour red. This is a day of action, combat, and victory. Historically, more military campaigns and revolutions have taken place on Tuesdays than any other day. Intensely fierce by nature, the day is associated with Aries and Scorpio. A child born on Tuesday is said to be active and full of action. He or she always has a plan of attack in any situation. They are problem-solvers and can be good generals, leading an army. Unfortunately, some cultures like the Greeks and Spanish considered Tuesday to be unlucky (due to its connection to violence). 

If you are born on Tuesday, you are a person of action. You are decisive, fast and can solve problems. You believe action speaks louder than words and dislike slow or indecisive people. You can be hot-tempered. As a fighter, you do not give up easily. You will stand and face your problems headlong, and "take the bull by the horns", so to say.  Courage is one of your strengths. WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is known as "Woden's Day." It refers to the Anglo-Saxon god, Woden. He is a deity of ecstasy, fury and poetry. The Germans considered him to be the leader of the Wild Hunt. Imported to Roman culture, he became identified as Mercury, god of learning and traveling. He presides over the mind and mental aptitude. Children born on Wednesday are said to be intelligent, quick-thinking but somewhat mentally unstable (due to Woden's connection to madness). Intellectual by nature, these kids are curious and have a thirst for knowledge. They will have Gemini and Virgo traits - eloquent, witty and good with words. They are articulate, but flirtatious.

If you are born on Wednesday, you have the gift of gab. Words and writings are your forte. Intelligent and cunning, you learn quickly. You will succeed in any intellectual pursuit. You enjoy challenging your mind, and learning new things. This makes you a good scholar. Due to your powers of persuasion, you can excel as a businessman, salesman or investor. Some of you enjoy traveling a lot and commercial transaction is highly favoured by Mercury.

Wednesdays are good for exams, traveling or commerce. A good day for thinking.

THURSDAY

Thursday is called "Thor's Day", after the Norse god of lightning. Romans referred to him as Jupiter, chief of the gods. He is the protector of law and morality. He is patron of governments, temples, and priests. As giver of law, he guards the sovereignty of the state and the Roman's right to rule. He is pretty much the good guy, in a fatherly kind of way. Thursday is generally considered to be an auspicious day. Muslims regard it as holy while Christians use it to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The Hindus dedicate Thurday to Lord Brihaspati (Jupiter), the guru of gods. The sign Sagittarius and Pisces is identified with Thursday.

If you are born on Thursday, you are said to be lucky. You are jovial, positive and upbeat. You are generous to others. One prominent thing that stuck out is your love for traveling and adventure.You enjoy learning foreign cultures and can be well-traveled. You do well in universities and places of worship. Since Jupiter is a law-giver, you may be religious, idealistic and uphold the law / morality. You are principled.

Thursdays are good for stately events, government functions and signing contracts.

FRIDAY

Friday belongs to Freya, Norse god of love. She is the goddess Venus or Aphrodite in Rome. She is patron of the sign Taurus and Libra. Besides sex, she also rules money and material pleasures. There is a darker aspect to Venus that is rarely discussed. She is identified as Lucifer, the morning star (a.k.a the Devil in the Bible) and is therefore considered as having demonic qualities. The Hindus regard Venus as the guru of the ashuras, or demon race. Christians regard Friday the Thirteenth as unlucky since Jesus was crucified on a Friday. However, this differs across cultures. Muslims venerate Friday as a holy day of worship and prayers. 

If you are born on Friday, you are sexy. You are loving to others, and there is an unmistakably sensual side to you. Graceful and attractive, you tend to enjoy the material pleasures of life. Sex tends be very important to you, as is money. You appreciate fine beauty and luxury in life. You indulge in food, sleep, beauty rituals, massages or simply pampering your senses. SATURDAY

Saturday belongs to Saturn, also known as Satan. He is Lord of Karma, in charge of meting out justice and karmic punishment (if you incur bad karma). The Romans regard Saturn as the deity of time, who controls the passage of time. Thus he is depicted as a wise old man. He teaches you a lesson in life by giving you obstacles, trials and tribulations. He is one tough badass demon overlord, but you gotta love him! Without Saturn, you will never grow wiser. Without Saturn, you will never learn to take responsibilities. Saturn is seriousness, maturity and hard work. He rules the sign Capricorn and Aquarius. The Jews venerate Saturday as their holy day of rest.

If you are born on Saturday, you are a mature and serious kid. You are wise beyond your age. You take on lots of responsibilities since young, and thus is a very reliable person. You are practical, loyal and hardworking. You don't believe in shortcuts. You can excel in business and financial dealings. Saturn rewards hard work with material wealth. Moon-Pluto: Dominatrix Wife

Moon-Pluto people are kinky and pervy, first and foremost. They have an insatiable hunger within them that cannot be satisfied. Men and women with Moon-Pluto (similar to Scorpio Moon) in their chart has an obsessive need for sex. All they crave is sex, sex and sex. Once you get them to bed, there's this ferocious beast waiting to rip you apart. They are also very seductive. I believe "magnetic" and "alluring" are the words to describe them.

When a Pisces Moon feels hurt, they always cry. They shed buckets of tears.

Astrologer Liz Greene talked about how watery moon people actually having mothers who invaded their boundaries when they were young. This is the root cause: boundaries. Pisces Moon folks fail to set clear boundaries in their relationships, and let others ill-treat them when they do not deserve it. They just cannot say "No" to others. Moon in harsh aspects to Saturn will give you that CEO wife you have been looking for to manage your life. This earthy Moon wants control and authority, first and foremost. In a man's chart, he desires a woman who is competent, efficient, and can "get the job done." The wife needs to have outstanding leadership skills to help run his life. She must be able to help him to achieve his ambitions. The Moon-Saturn man admires a professional woman who can benefit his career. She needs to be successful enough to boost his status in society. 

The Capricorn Moon individual is goal-oriented. They have a need to rise in society and command respect from others. Moon-Uranus: The Distant Lover

Moon in harsh aspects to Uranus in a natal chart gives you a distant lover. He or she is the unavailable lover - often being away or physically absent. The tendency is to have a long-distance relationship where they do not see you often. They want their own "space" and needs lots of freedom to move around and do their own thing. It is said that most pilots and corporate businessmen  have this aspect in their charts, since they are usually away from home for extended periods. She hides her insecurity by sleeping around (to show she does not need a bf) or creating issues to break up once she goes steady with a guy. Moon-Mars: Sexually-frustrated Man

Moon square Mars in a man's chart often indicates sexual frustration of some kind. Ancient astrology texts describe these men as "irritable" and "angry." But why irritable? To understand the male psychology, we need to know that moody men are the product of either hunger or sexual starvation. In this case, his sexual needs (Mars) is not being satisfied by his wife (Moon). That's right, he ain't getting any. Or he ain't getting enough. Maybe he's not getting the type he wants either, which is rough (Mars). The wife is sexually-incompatible with him. As a result, the man gets into frequent fights and arguments with his spouse. He blames her for rejecting or suppressing his manliness, and may even feel like a failure of a man. His big appetite may only be satisfied outside marriage, hence this is a common placement for playboys and unfaithful Casanovas.

Stephen Arroyo claims that Moon square Mars men feel that they cannot assert their masculinity (Mars) towards their wives (Moon), and that the wife has sabotaged their male ego. This is always a dangerous position for men, as there is a potential of revenge towards the wife, either in the form of violence, quarrels or fights. The risk of extramarital affairs is also increased.

The root of this problem comes from childhood, specifically, from the mother (Moon). He may have perceived his mother as having rejected or ignored his neediness as a child. She could be the aggressive type of mom, the action-oriented mom who did not nurture him emotionally. He may get into frequent fights with her. Some male clients with this placement even claim that their mom was violent. The seeds of anger towards women have been sown in boyhood, which blossoms into marital discord in adulthood.

The Moon and Motherly Love.

The Moon is the most important planet in classical astrology. If you know absolutely nothing about astrology, it helps that you only know about the Moon and its position in your natal chart. For men, the Moon also predicts the type of woman he is going to marry. From my experience as an astrologer, it is an accurate predictor of the type of wife a man is looking for, as well as the relationship he needs to have with his wife. This is rooted in psychology whereby a wife is a mother substitute in the hearts of most men. 

It is essential for you to know what type of Moon you have, it's position & condition in your natal chart to gain self-awareness of your relationship patterns. If you have been having a string of destructive or failed relationships, perhaps it is time to look at your Moon.
